As they hear more about the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), content creators of all types — from developers to writers to visual and performing artists — are searching for ways to protect their data (i.e., content they post online) from being used in the training of AI models.

Luckily, WIRED, a terrific publication that’s been around for a long time and consistently serves up detailed tech-related content, recently published an article on this important topic by tech journalists Matt Burgess and Reece Rogers. While I highly recommend reading the full article, I understand that online creators prefer to spend their time actually creating rather than reading about tech stuff. So here’s a (very) brief overview of some of the details provided in “How to Stop Your Data From Being Used to Train AI” that I hope you’ll find helpful.

First, it’s important to understand that there’s a good chance any current or archived content you’ve posted anywhere online has already been scraped by AI bots to use for AI training. But it makes sense to take steps that might help keep any new content you create safe.
